What do you need to qualify as a lawyer in Malaysia?
Once you have obtained a good LLB from the University of Manchester School of Law and have returned to Malaysia to pursue your legal career, you must sit your Certificate in Legal Practice exams.
After passing your CLP, budding lawyers must then seek to be invited to take on a nine-month paid training contract, which will expose you to the world of Malaysian law. While undergoing this pupillage, you will be expected to take further tests set by the Malaysian bar, and participate in Malaysian Bar legal aid programmes, which the University of Manchester School of law will prepare you for with our Legal Advice Centre opportunities.

I liked the modules offered by The School of Law and was also attracted by the fact that the University of Manchester was a city campus. I enjoyed the extracurricular activities like volunteering at the Legal Advice Centre as this experience gave me a different exposure of working with the community.
You get a good mix of different students from different backgrounds at Manchester and will be exposed to diverse cultures. Due to this, you will get a piece of home by mixing with people from your home country but when you feel a bit braver, you can mingle with other international students.
I’m now studying my Bar Professional Training Course in Cardiff and will subsequently return to Malaysia to do my pupillage.
