Law students from Canada

"It is advantageous that the study of law in the UK is similar to Canada due to the common law heritage." Adeena Mohammed, Law LLB student.

Every year the University of Manchester welcomes a new cohort of students from Canada, many of whom choose Manchester to study at the School of Law because of its reputation, location and inclusive culture.

The School of Law has been welcoming Canadian students for many years, thanks to the parallels between the study of law here in the UK and in Canada. As well as gaining a transferrable degree from Manchester, Canadian students find Manchester easy to navigate, friendly, cosmopolitan and bursting with opportunity for exploring the UK and Europe while living here.

What do you need to qualify as a lawyer in Canada?

In the UK, you do not have to have a University degree before embarking on a law degree, allowing you to apply straight out of high school.

Upon completing your Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at The University of Manchester, Canadian graduates must be assessed by the National Committee on Accreditation in order to qualify for bar membership in any Canadian province or territory. You must then complete the Bar Admission Course for your province in Canada.
